I’m pretty sure only Road & Track has a road test of the 333.....I’ll never forget reading through it, and looking at the shape without sponsorship decals ..I still have all my issues from 89-2016/18ish.....
I’m pretty sure the nascars still had H pattern trans 11 years ago. This is likely a c6r corvette or c7. What ever was current Imsa car at the time
this is like a free master class!
That's not the oval! That is the grand prix road course with extra chicanes scattered about. Half way around there is a dip under a roadway passing over. That was the only view we had of the oval.
Is this papis’s actual account.
Yes.
I watched it live! The day I became a Max fan.
Half race track, half construction zone
Huh
I'd say repave it, but that's gotta be expensive
What’s that metal T welded onto the accelerator used for?
pretty sure its for if the throttle gets stuck
@@Thomas-ib9iu I got ya
"Ciao e buon pomeriggio to everyone across the Atlantic as NASCAR on FOX welcomes you to the Monza Circuit here in Monza Italy for the inaugural run of the FIAT 500 on oval circuit."

My second visit to the Daytona 24hrs from UK. I will never forget Mad Max in '96,glad I was there 😊
Oh what id give for that driving lesson!
Se non ci fossero stati gli ostacoli credo saresti passato volentieri sulla parte alta delle sopraelevate :-)
Rip Jim pace
I got a question for your, commenters: I understand why throttle pedal is made of carbon (for more precise control) but why brake pedal is so massive and made of seems like straight up steel?
Carbon Throttle pedal is just because. One of the guys in the shop made it, the driver likes a pedal like that. There are numerous reasons. The Brake pedal is wide so he can use his right foot to brake and blip simultaneously. Some drivers place their right foot horizontal, toes facing right and brake with their heel and blip with their toe. Hence Heel/Toe braking/downshifting as it's called. Some drivers keep their foot vertical and rock the pedals as he does both literally and figuratively. I learned the method he uses and am most comfortable with it. See Ricky Rudd; ruclips.net/video/7DhtCbSayj0/видео.html You will notice different holes so the brake pedal can be positioned differently either for driver preference or tracks like ovals where they spend less time on the brake or are left foot braking the whole time.
@@simvids1461 thank you a lot for responding! I've never seen such technique before as the driver has from the video you linked to. I don't have sim racing rig where I can practice it and my personal car is just an accord with manual transmission, so I always do only heel/toe with my right foot on downshifting. It's actually more like toe/outside-of-the-middle-of-foot as there is very little space between brake and throttle pedal. I also try sometimes to brake with my left foot when I am certain that I won't need to change gears but that's more like for training my brain to be able to use both legs for everything :)
@@ArtemLokhovitskiy I drive my manual Elantra rarely using clutch. I use the clutch to start out and when stopped. Otherwise, I shift clutchless both up and down. I left foot brake most of the time though, I don't brake much. In general city driving, most people over brake. It's their solution for everything. I do blip to downshift to rev match. Mechanics at the dealership are always surprised at how little brake wear and clutch wear my vehicles have. 8)
@@ArtemLokhovitskiy if you look close he "rides" (half depressed) the clutch under the heavy braking zones its a big heavy stockcar also a V8 with more rotational drag mass so to keep the rear tires from locking he uses the clutch as a anti lock up device.
Michael Waltrip: "Boogity! Boogity! Boogity! Adiamo Razzista Boys!"
That's Darrell Waltrip's shtick, not Michael's.
@@Tittymaster Thanks
Is this a Gander truck/Xfinity car/Cup car Does anyone know ?
Based on Max's race history I'll guess Truck or Xfinity. Just because of the short acceleration sections, lots of braking and shifting, Sonoma??
@@simvids1461 No not Sonoma
NASCAR WOOOOOOO
I saw most of Max's races, not only in this car, but all the others. The GTP days had no equal. Then these WSCs had their era. Saw all events from '89-'95 at NE tracks. Then I moved to S. Florida and saw more in Daytona and Homestead. Then, ironically, I saw Max jogging in South Beach. 🙌🏁
Looks like me in my UPS truck 😎
Riding the clutch
And this is why people pay to go to F1. Even a poor F1 driver is bloody fast in anything else.
The opposite is true too... You think the Vanthoor Brothers aren't quick? You think Indycar drivers aren't quick? All the top GT3 drivers could run for a World Championship in F1 if they got the chance. They are no joke.
In my opinion, Rene Rast is one of the best in the world.
@@SieTeppischfresser Not entirely true. Especially the GT3 drivers were racing in F3 for example against those going up to F1. The later F1 drivers mostly wiped the floor with the ones going to gt3.
@@SieTeppischfresser Indy, GT, WEC drivers are incredible, but it’s naive to consider they could win an F1 championship or contend for wins except for absolute talents.
We weren't worthy of the 333 SP and may never be.
Awesome video! Remember this well. Go to the 6 min mark if you only came for the epic pit stop.
How Manuel drivers feel when they have a really smooth shift Can say this from experience Feels good man
Taylor May have won the race, but Papis became a legend
Simulated ABS
He IS the ABS and Traction Control! 8)
bring back Monza oval!!!
max deserved a better car in cup
He is using Heel and toe (clutching and throtteling) when downshifting to match the RPM's. When you are just clutching/shifting in the corner and then go off the clutch, the car can easily lose the rear.
Why he not warm up his engine? Is becauase the car uses dry sump?
Sounds like at the beginning they were talking about some changes so I'm guessing they've already made a run and the engine is already warm.
maybe the only youtube video where you can actualy see this famous banking !
Only if Max hadn't pitted...
I was there! Awesome!
Man I remember watching this as a kid. Epic race. And only a couple of more weeks until the 2019 Rolex 24!
One of my faves to watch and hear
Gotta love Max....he wasn’t always the fastest guy, but he drove the living piss out of everything he jumped in.
Why do they not use the clutch? Is it because they are such pros, such good drivers, they are shifting when the motor and tranny are synced? I noticed on the hard downshifts, he’ll use the clutch when performing a “heel toe” shift.
These racing transmissions do not require the clutch
Jerico....There IS no substitute!!
Bring back Muncey
Aaaaaaand half of these is why you never wander into the comments........
Holy fuck! Forget F1, have these NASCARs do the f1 circuit.
Why all the man-made turns with the tires? I wanted to see the NASCAR run the same way the f1 cars did. I bet it could reach some serious speed
なんでハンドルが助手席にも付いているんですか?
